New needs, new solutions
The Road Sweeper is a great example of how utility vehicles could be adapted to new occupations. The brush was installed at the rear for regular sweeping action, and its well-balanced lift system was easy to manoeuvre using a lever located to the left of the driver.
Major mechanical breakthroughs
The Billancourt-based company introduced a number of technical advancements in the mechanics industry, including the automatic carburettor, high-tension magneto ignition, and lubrication by internal oil circulation. The cooling system (Renault patent filed in 1905) used a thermosiphon with a rear-mounted radiator and a fan on the engine flywheel. These innovations made it possible to cool the engine at any driving speed.
