To achieve this, it expanded the plants in Boulogne-Billancourt and set up huge assembly production line workshops in the heart of Île Seguin, thereby making it the biggest facility in France.
While Renault managed to withstand the crisis of the 1930s, its success was short-lived: from 1936, the company was no longer profitable; it was unable to meet the growing demand for small cars, lost in a poorly structured diversification policy. The 1938 rearmament movement saved Renault from failing because it had not updated its strategy frequently enough.
