Vehicles adapted to every need
Louis Renault had always been very conscious of the needs of public administrations and peripheral departments. Renault’s range of firefighting equipment included a wide range of specialised engines. The earliest fire engines were fitted with hand-operated pumps, but after the First World War, the pumps were powered by an internal combustion engine. The higher flow rate and water pressure drastically improved firefighting capabilities.
A comprehensive product range
The trucks remained heavy, however, so Renault eventually launched the lightweight fire engine. This model was fitted with a Rateau centrifugal pump capable of drawing water from a depth of 4.80 metres, with a head of 60 metres and a flow rate of 80 cubic metres. Over the years, Renault would continue to expand its range of firefighting products. The outbreak of the Second World War ultimately put an end to integrated productions, but Renault would remain a key supplier for specialised manufacturers.
