For the 50th edition of the Circuit des Remparts, Renault brought together an exceptional line-up of some fifteen Renault 5 Turbo cars in the hands of renowned drivers.
The Circuit des Remparts is an unmissable event in the calendar of classic car enthusiasts. The organizers do their best to transform the city center of Angoulême into a circuit with a demanding and unchanged layout since 1939!
50th edition of this legendary event
2022 celebrates the 50th edition of this event which brings together more than 160 competitors from all eras of car racing from France but also from England, Germany or Belgium.
After the Concours d'Elegance and the tourist rallies of the first two days, it is on Sunday that the "hostilities" begin with the driving of the different cars with some big names at the wheel like Ari Vatanen, Jean-Claude Andruet or Jean-Pierre Jarier.
50th anniversary of the Renault 5
The Renault 5 was the guest of honor of this event since the whole Place des Halles of the city of Angoulême was dedicated to it through an exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the little city car as well as the paddocks of the fabulous Renault 5 Turbo set gathered by Renault Classic for the occasion (more than fifteen!). All these Renault 5 Turbo were able to take the start on the circuit during two dynamic demonstrations and the least we can say is that the drivers ensured the show!
A variety of Renault 5 Turbo at the celebration
Among them, great names like François Chatriot, Guy Fréquelin, Pierre Petit, Julien Saunier, Joël Gouhier, Patrick Henry and many others. This squadron of Renault 5 Turbo, composed of various models such as "Cevennes", "Tour de Corse", "Group 4", "Maxi Turbo", "Super Production" was fighting to link the famous hairpin bends of the chestnut tree or Fangio to the delight of the public.
Renault 5 in the spotlight
Renault was also at the party on the "Volant d’or" race bringing together drivers acclaimed by the public such as Jean Vinatier on Renault Classic’s 4CV which participated in Le Mans Classic this year, Jean Ragnotti on a R5 Alpine Group 2 or Alain Serpaggi on a Renault 5 Turbo.
The program would not be complete without mentioning the round tables dedicated to the career of Jean Vinatier but also to the genesis of the Renault 5 Turbo in the presence of François Bernard, one of the main engineers who worked on the design of this legendary car.
